Federal Codes

United States Code

The United States Code contains the text of current public laws enacted by Congress (does not include regulations issued by executive branch agencies, decisions of the federal courts, or treaties).  

Code of Federal Regulations

The Code of Federal Regulations is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the Executive Department and agencies of the Federal Government. The database will be updated throughout the current calendar year until a complete set is available.

California Code of Regulations

This searchable and browsable (by agency and title) database contains all 27 titles of the regulations with the exception of Title 24 - California Building Standards.This unofficial version has been put online by West Group, publisher of the official Barclays version.

California Legislative Information

The official site for California legislative information. This WWW site is maintained by the Legislative Counsel of California, pursuant to California law. Daily Updates to Assembly Bills and Senate Bills. (Bill Information) Link to California Law. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html California Law consists of 29 codes, covering various subject areas, the State Constitution and Statutes. Information presented reflects laws currently in effect.

California Voter Foundation

Contains the California Online Voter Guide, with the text of propositions. Includes links to current and archived voter and civic education resources, such as California Map Series, California Government, Statewide Officers, etc.  

Free Advice - Personal Injury Statute of Limitations

Statute of limitations is the time period within which one can bring a lawsuit for personal injuries. This website gives state, length of limitations, code #s, and a link to that states website.  

LawHelpCalifornia.org

LawHelpCalifornia.org provides the public with easy internet access to basic information and legal resources in California. A joint project of the California Indian Legal Services and Public Interest Clearinghouse, this site provides legal help on the following topics: Housing, Families & Kids, Public Benefits & Health, and Protection from Abuse, Native American Issues, Disability, Elders, Life & Estate Planning, Immigration, Work Individual & Civil Rights, and Consumer & Small Claims.

Courts and Court Decisions

California Courts

Court calendars, court opinions, and detailed information on California's Supreme Court and Courts of Appeals, including the members of each court and their addresses. Also, maintains links to all of the County Courts in California and an Online Self-Help Center, which provides information for finding free and low-cost legal help as well as instructions on court procedures and how the courts work. The Judicial Council of California maintains this site.

Superior Court of California - County of Los Angeles

This site has categories such as civil, family, probate, traffic, and criminal. Under each category, there is "Forms" required for the Los Angeles County Courts including one to change your name. They are in PDF format and require Adobe Acrobat Reader.  

Supreme Court of California and California Courts of Appeal - Opinions

As a service to the bench, bar, and public, this Web page includes the full text of "slip opinions" of the California Supreme Court and the California Courts of Appeal that have been certified or ordered published.

United States Supreme Court Decisions 1937-1975

Contains the full text of 7,407 U.S. Supreme Court Decisions from 1937 to 1975. Searchable by keyword or case name.

This site has a legal dictionary and encyclopedia in fifteen subject areas, including small business, employment, patent, copyright and trademark, mediation, parents and children, spouses and partners, seniors, wills, debt and credit, and real estate. In addition, there are annotated lists of recommended Internet resources related to each subject.  

Officer.com - Law Enforcement Resource Site

Although written for the police professional, this site will be very useful to anyone needing criminal justice information. The criminal justice resource directory links to US federal and constitutional law sites, law libraries, and criminal justice resources by state. Criminal justice issues by topic include computer laws, hate crimes, terrorism, prison issues, and firearms law. Links to international and foreign criminal justice issues are also provided.
