World Factbook

Published annually by the Central Intelligence Agency. This is a handy reference work for basic statistical data on the countries of the world. Also, check out their appendices and maps at the bottom of the page.

Information Please Almanac

The publishers have put the contents of the Information Please Almanacs, their own biography database, "a leading dictionary," and the Columbia Encyclopedia online. You can search these ready reference works together or separately or browse the Almanacs.

Old Farmer’s Almanac

This electronic version of the Old Farmer's Almanac answers questions about weather, astronomy, folklore, and history, and provides gardening advice and household hints.

Full color physical maps, political maps as well as key facts and statistics on countries of the world.

Color Landform Atlas of the United States

Each state link brings up a menu of links to maps and other online information about the state. Links are included for web pages from the Virtual Tourist, City Net, and Yahoo. Currently two maps are available for each state (except Alaska and Hawaii): A topographic map optimized to show the landforms, and a map showing counties in a state.

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Based on the Webster 10th Collegiate edition, 1993. More than 160,000 entries. Each word is accompanied by definition, pronunciation, usage, grammatical function, and a brief etymology. A thesaurus can be queried for similar words, hypertext cross references are available, and misspellings return suggested spellings. Search system supports internal wildcards and right hand truncation searching. Includes an extensive pronunciation guide.

OneLook Dictionaries

A dictionary search engine, this site will search 900 online dictionaries at once. Provides definition, translations from and into many languages, and pattern worlds using wildcard characters within word searches.
